Saturday, August 7 - Homeward Bound

Back to Seattle on BA flight 553 to London, 49 to Seattle.

Surprise upgrade to “Club World” class so we all got to sleep in our own little super-pods! C's favorite part of the whole trip....

Welcome home Lara! I love you.

Friday, August 6 - Pantheon and Capuchins

Headed back to the Vatican on the 110Open, but bailed on the Cupola again ... that line is too long!

Back on 110Open to the Trevi Fountain stop, walked to the Pantheon. Alex tried to match the niches to Roman gods; S & C admired the open roof and drainholes in the floor; L liked Raphael's tomb.

Walked to Lunch at Ciao Bella at 12 Via Veneto.

Across the street to the awesome Crypt of the Capuchin Monks.

Evening English-language live show “History of Rome Part 1” at the Forum. Fun!

Dinner at Il Baccanale at 32 Piazza Campo de Fiori.

Thursday, August 5 - Lara's 41st Birthday!

Bought L’s necklace at Bulgari, bag at Furla.

Lunch at La Tavernetta on Via Sistina.

C led us to (and checked off!) all the animals at the Bioparco (Zoo) back in Villa Borghese.

Dinner at Imago at the Hassler, incredible view!

Wednesday, August 4 - Pompei

Up early for the trek to Pompei, again with driverinrome. Pompei was fantastic!

Lunch at Pizzerria Brandi in Naples ... S loved the fried calzoni.

Visit to the Archeological Museum in Naples to see some of the Pompei artifacts, then back to the hotel.

Dinner at Artemide rooftop lounge, mosquitoes and crazy skipping music and not-so-great food... biggest food oops of the trip. Ah well, there had to be one!

Tuesday, August 3 - Villa Borghese

Took a taxi to Villa Borghese, L and A toured the Gallery; S and C rented bikes and toured the park.

Quick lunch at café in the middle of the park.

Shopped on fancy Via Condotti, bought books at the American bookstore. Questionable placement of the Rick Steves book in the display!

Visited the beautiful Trevi Fountain and walked home.

Dinner at Restaurante Galleria Sciarra at 23 Via Pietro Cavallini, behind Trevi Fountain.

Monday, August 2 - Appian Way

Took the Archeobus to the farthest Appian Way stop at Villa Capo di Bove.

Walked to Lunch at L’Archeologica, great quiet spot.

Visited the Catacombs of San Sebastian, happy that our English tour had about eight people instead of about eighty on the German one!

Walked on to Church of Quo Vadis and admired the stone with Jesus’ alleged footprints, then took the Archeobus back to Termini and the hotel.

Dinner at Corte Del Grillo at 6 Salita del Grillo -- pick your own fish! L stayed with turf but S, A and C all tried the surf with lobster salad and salt-baked sea bass. Connor loves Limoncello!

Sunday, August 1 - Colosseum

Colosseum day ... bought our snazzy Roma Passes and took Metro B from Termini but would have been quicker to walk!

Checked out the Arch of Constantine and then lunch at Oppio Caffe at 72 Via della Terme di Tito, not so hot.

Then on to the Forum!

Dinner at Trattoria Tritone at 1 Via dei Maronti, Connor was seated in a lovely bush.
